Pater Gratia Oriental Art

Lunsingh Scheurleer 1982/1

Book

Author: Lunsingh Scheurleer, D.F.

Title: Brieven van pater d'Entrecolles en de mededelingen over de porseleinfabricage uit oude boeken. / Letters of Father d'Entrecolles and the accounts of Chinese porcelain from old European publications.

The book gives a (Dutch-English) translation of the letters from the French Jesuit Father d'Entrecolles sent to Father Orry, treasurer in Paris of the Jesuit missions to China and India. D'Entrecolles used direct observation at the kilns, as well as the technical knowledge of some of his converts to discover the secret of hard-paste porcelain manufacture.

To give the reader a better insight into the manufacture of porcelain, reproductions of 28 watercolours in the Princessehof at Leeuwarden (The Netherlands) have also been included.
