Book

Author: Goddio, F. & Guyot de Saint Micheal, E.J.

Title: Griffin. On the route of an Indiaman.

Book on the Honourable East India Company's ship "Griffin" which sank with a cargo of porcelain, silks and tea, in 1761 in the Sulu Sea near the Philippines. A book on the excavation of the "Griffin" a background to the story, the route to India and the artifact recovered from the East Indiaman. When she was lost the ship formed part of a convoy, sailing along an alternate sea route in unknown waters, part of a secret mission of the up most importance for the policy of expansion which the Honourable East India Company aggressively, if discreetly, pursued at the time. The documentation of this shipwreck cast new light on European trading patterns, but above all on our knowledge of the great Chinese art of porcelain manufacture and its decoration.
